This looks like a great addition to the zoo. I'm very impressed that it's completely netted over, allowing the flying birds to not be pinioned. Also, sometimes Little Penguins are confined to tiny, all-indoor exhibits year-round, but Cincinnati has exceeded my expectations here.
I wouldn't be surprised if the netting is there as much to keep gulls out as it is to keep ducks in!
If Cincinnati really wanted to capture the flavor of the native Little Penguin habitat I saw, the mock-rock wall would have been replaced with a faux hotel facade. In all seriousness though, this looks like a great exhibit for visitors and penguins.
This photo helps capture the length of this exhibit. It's definitely a lot more space than what the little penguins had in the past. Hopefully this helps their already successful breeding population thrive.
