Australia - Matschie's Tree Kangaroo Enclosure

July 16th, 2010.
Both this complex and the South American one appear to rely on this organization of a great aviary whose side enclosure doubles as the viewing area for nice large exhibits beyond; I like the idea of being surrounded by birds while viewing other animals, but I do not like the realities of mesh or glass obstructions when I view animals such as wallaroos and emus, for instance. Are there viewing areas for some of these attached anclosures outside the aviaries for the occasional visitors that fear free-flying birds?

The entire complex is 70,000 square feet in size, and all of it is covered with mesh. If anyone was afraid of flying birds then they would miss what is essentially an awesome, gigantic walk-through aviary filled with quite a few smaller enclosures. Almost none of the exhibits can be seen from the outside, except part of the cassowary enclosure and the second of the two giant anteater exhibits.
