It looks nice, but with the desert theme to me it seemed at least somewhat ill-suited for the forest and marshland-type birds kept in here. In the past they had a lot of small and medium-sized Australian parakeets and parrots in here, but now there weren't quite as many psittacines left in there.

Agreed fully on the forest birds not matching the scenery. As much as I would love to visit Pairi Daiza, with its elaborate theming, it definitely seems odd seeing a crowned pigeon from New Guinea on a substrate of red soil or sand.
 
@Anniella It was strange indeed and it would be something I would put on the list of downsides to Pairi Daiza.

Personally I would not let reticence about certain exhibits or displays stop you from visiting Pairi Daiza. The place is truly unique and I would say a must see for zoo nerds who can go there.
 
@KevinB Trust me, I wouldn't let that stop me. It's more my geographic location and time at the moment, as well as the fact I just had an international trip. It's actually one of my top 5 zoos if I ever make it to Europe.
