Aviaries for peacock-pheasants

May 20 2013
I´ve seen Grey, Palawan, Bronze-tailed, Germain and Rothschild but it´s possible they have even more !

The signs at the aviaries are good but quite simple and didn´t call the species up to sub-species level. Because several of the species where quite shy and dissappeared into the undergrowed or indoor-enclosure as soon as I showed up I didn´t see for example the Rothschild peacock-pheasant very well, so I´m not sure about the subspecies they have.
When they however have them, I´m sure they keep them pure because they also have a nice collection of common pheasants ( Phas. colchicus ssp ) and these are all kept pure to subspecies level !

Common Pheasant subspecies kept at the Rooie Hoeve are :
Phas. colchicus formosanus
Phas. colchicus colchicus
Phas. colchicus pallasi
Phas. colchicus mongolicus
Phas. colchicus bianchii
They also keep the other Phasianus species, the Versicolor pheasant by the subspecies
Phas. versicolor robustipes
Most of these birds were quite shy and hard to photograph but from the ones I managed to take some, I will soon up-load some photos.
