Avondale spider (Delena cancerides)

an Australian spider (huntsman) accidentally introduced to NZ and here named after the Auckland suburb of Avondale. The display at the museum has little hinged flaps to open to see the spiders resting inside bark hidey-holes. This spider is the species used in the movie Arachnophobia.
