It is interesting that the zoo has so many enclosures with mini-terraces inside them. Babirusa, duiker and other hoofstock yards have rocky wall backdrops and then a series of terraced levels. Bizarre, and I'm not sure that there are many other zoos anywhere with that sort of design.
Again, barren. San Antonio could easily improve this though, I think, with some more planting and maybe a load of dirt to smooth out the terraces in front, possibly a pool/mud wallow where the babirusa is lying?

This is the smaller of the two Babirusa yards. The other yards is a green grassy lawn, and looks quite nice in comparison. Other than large solid concrete walls, no there isn't much holding it in.

Ha! Just posted something similar in another thread. Generally I think consistency (and eccentricity, within reason) of design is a positive, but these terraces are being carried a bit to extremes from what I can see.
