It is interesting that the zoo has so many enclosures with mini-terraces inside them. Babirusa, duiker and other hoofstock yards have rocky wall backdrops and then a series of terraced levels. Bizarre, and I'm not sure that there are many other zoos anywhere with that sort of design.
 
Again, barren. San Antonio could easily improve this though, I think, with some more planting and maybe a load of dirt to smooth out the terraces in front, possibly a pool/mud wallow where the babirusa is lying?

Doesn't look like there's much holding this animal in either :confused:
 
This is the smaller of the two Babirusa yards. The other yards is a green grassy lawn, and looks quite nice in comparison. Other than large solid concrete walls, no there isn't much holding it in.:p

Ha! Just posted something similar in another thread. Generally I think consistency (and eccentricity, within reason) of design is a positive, but these terraces are being carried a bit to extremes from what I can see.
