Ball Pythons are rare in Australian zoos and not present in the legal pet trade in Australia as exotic reptiles are not permitted to be kept as pets (only natives). Wildlife HQ received the species earlier in the year and there are now four known zoos in Australia to have them - Melbourne Zoo, Wild Cat Conservation Centre, Melbourne Zoo and now Wildlife HQ, following imports from Singapore. So this was my first ever Ball Python that I’d seen!
@WhistlingKite24 It is certainly strange to hear of them so being rare, with the species being one of the most commonly kept snakes here. Is the reason behind the exotic reptile ban to avoid potential feral populations and associated diseases from causing problems for natives?
