South Lake (an area for wild waterfowl, within the reserve's boundary fence). The adults were released in 2010. They have nested together since 2015, but this year is the first time they have hatched chicks. Slimbridge, 2nd July 2017.
Ruby is on the left, Bart in the centre. The chick is approximately 3 weeks old. It killed its younger sibling a few days ago. This is perfectly natural behaviour for a crane and it ought to improve the chance that it will fledge successfully.
