The (former) Bear Ravine viewing area is one of many Tecton buildings at Dudley that have listed (preserved) building status but due to lack of funds have been slowly falling apart. The zoo finally announced last year they had some money to sort them out and the shop/entrance, kiosk and Bear Ravine are now finally getting restored in the first wave - which will a) preserve some very interesting zoo architecture and b) make Dudley a far more attractive zoo!
I would much rather they turn it into a large decent heavily planted enclosure for an interesting new species than a small substandard boring African plain that would quickly turn to a mud bath. Hopefully, wolves would be able to use the internal dens already part of the tecton (if they are in a habitable condition).
