Male, on gravel tray. At this time of year the birds switch from a diet of insects to seeds, so they need gravel in their crops to aid digestion. The RSPB puts out gravel for them to tempt them out of the reed beds so that visitors can see them. Leighton Moss RSPB, 16th September 2015.
