A couple of years ago this one-million gallon pool was home to 5 Beluga Whales, although a male was sent away to SeaWorld for breeding purposes and 2 more have since died. Now all that are left are a couple of females, but in the next few years the aquarium will be expanding this exhibit via a flex/rotational pool with the dolphins. Where more Beluga Whales come from is anyone's guess, although less than a year ago Georgia Aquarium applied to capture 18 from the wild and disperse them throughout North American aquatic facilities in order to get some fresh genes and kickstart a breeding program.
