This exhibit actually houses jaguars--the only open-topped jaguar exhibit I am aware of in the US, with the exception of Milwaukee. The space is nice but viewing takes the form of a "pit" from all sides, unfortunately.
I would have dated this entire area as more recent than 1976 when I visited last year. I found all the exhibits in this complex extremely spacious. Great display of a good variety of felines. Has aged well.
was this exhibit always an enclosure for jaguars?
The first open-topped exhibit should be in Rio de Janeiro's zoo. So this must be before 1976. It's amazing.
