Billy

This was Billy's first day in the Cambodia yard. The females were in the India/China yard. It's funny how Billy holds his hay between his right tusk and trunk.

mstickmanp, do you think the Elephants of Asia exhibit has lived up to the expectations? Or can it be better?

I'm going to say yes and no. The only major disappointment for me and many here in Zoochat was the choice of barriers. I know that maybe it was a decision made to save money, but maybe even painting the poles a different color could have made a huge different. Other than that, this exhibit came out great for the animals, zoo staff, and guest. The flexibility of the exhibit makes life easier for the keepers when cleaning and moving animals around. The different yards with different terrain and the different enrichment opportunities will always keep the elephants interested. Also, the amount of information provided on elephants around Asia and the different viewing opportunities will no doubt make the guests' experience a lot better.

Before this exhibit was built I saw Billy hundreds of times, and never did he showed all the energy and playfulness he has now in Elephants of Asia, so that alone tells me that the exhibit has lived up to the expectations.
