According to the excellent Bioparco guidebook this is Quasimodo,a male mandrill who came from the Jardin des Plantes menagerie in Paris. Now the jardin des plantes is actually close to the Cathedral of Notre Dame, which just across the river to the left. And the dominant female mandrill at Bioparco is named Esmeralda, of course. Victor hugo readers, Anthony Quinn fans and even Disney cartoon followers will remember that Quasimodo did not fulfill his love for Esmeralda because of his looks. However the Quasimodo mandrill and the Esmeralda mandrill have bred and had offspring, which did not recieve literary names. I suppose the primates were named at the french menagerie and not at the bioparco. By the way, the mandrills live in a very nice natural exhibit.
