We just arrived back from Taronga Western Plains, and while we had a great time we were disappointed that the bison have gone! There were Przewalski's horses in that enclosure. The big maps sill showed a bison but the newer maps they give visitors show no bison. Any idea why they removed such an iconic animal from the zoo?
All of Dubbo's bison came to ALTINA a few months back.
Apparently they are renovating and specialising in only certain country's animals and American is not one of them?
Thanks for that Bec. Did ALTINA also get the Wapiti as well? My animal mad son was very disappointed the bison and elk were missing and is very keen to see them. With those two and the Maned Wolf I think we may need to take a trip to ALTINA.
yes we have majority of Dubbo's Wapiti/Elk too plus Canberra National Zoo also got some Wapiti/Elk. We have acquired some new elk bloodline too from private breeders and are hoping to swap 1 male for another at Canberra to keep both zoo bloodlines as strong as Australian possible. (apparently less than 100 pure bred wapiti left Aussie wide) and I don't know of any other zoos that have them...? You? or is it just the 2 Zoos now?

I checked my photos and they had a group there when I visited in late 2013. Hopefully you guys and the other zoos with them are able to maintain good herds of this species into the future.
