black bear cub (wild)

July 25, 2017
Crescent Meadow, Sequoia National Park, California. A visitor who saw them before we arrived said there were two cubs, but I only saw this one. Observed mother in tall meadow grass next to log for a long time. Eventually she walked up log to end where cub is, turned and went off to the right. This cub then appeared from undergrowth on left and played very briefly on end of log before following mother to the right.

This photo is severely cropped; I was NOT that close to mother and cub. I was, however, fairly close to another young adult bear on the mail trail behind us.
