Black-footed Rock Wallaby, West MacDonnell National Park, Northern Territory.

Ridiculously hard to see, way up a cliff at Ormiston Gorge.

To get an idea of how hard it was to see this wallaby, try and find him on this photo:

So what on earth was he doing up there? I am getting vertigo just from watching the pic.

The second pic suggests that there the rock face, a plateau with a road, and a gorge adjacent to the road. Is that right?

That's where they live!

OK, I'm not too sure where you see the road, but there is no road here. Basically the water at the bottom is a large waterhole, which is what remains of a river which has dried out. The cliff the wallaby is on is one side of the gorge, and I took the photo on the other side, above the waterhole. Access is via a cliff track behind me, or just down the dry river bed.

Here is another photo to try and explain this better (the rock wallaby is on the right-hand cliff, but out of shot).

They're not called rock-wallabies for nothing!

Zooboy - I can only see the one, in both pics, although they're normally found in small family groups. Was this a loner or were there others but not in this pic?

:p

We only saw the one here, although there could definitely have been others we missed. Having said that, we did watch this guy for about half an hour, and didn't see any other activity on this cliff, so he could have been a loner.

Haha oops. I am watching this on my phone. Basically the 'high water' mark looked like a road, and the 'gorge' is actually a reflection of the cliff in the water!!
