Black Rhino enclosure - Dec 2002

This is the only photo I have of the Black Rhino at Monarto Zoo. They are on the southern side of the zoo - quite a distance away from the White Rhino. They are also kept in an open area that isn't fenced off like the White Rhino are - you can see in the photo that the Rhino is down in one of the ditches they have dug to keep them in - gentle slope on one side and steep on the other.

The extreme length of the forehead (and its concavity) along with the hump behind the head make me think this is actually a white rhino ...

That's quite possible. The area where this was taken is now inhabited by the zoos Black Rhinos but back in 2002 it could well have been the White Rhinos.
