I would say that it does look on the small side even for a pudu, especially given that the exhibit also holds a ground-dwelling large bird. I'm also not seeing much opportunities for the pudu and the currasow to get out of each others way or view.
Although I have been to many California facilities, I have never been to this zoo, but I know the vast majority of exhibits here have been there for a while, and that this zoo has had financial challenges. I think they often have to do with what they have, but it would be nice to see the pudu get a larger enclosure. Personally, with Sacramento Zoo most likely relocating and going back to many larger species, I would love to see this zoo become the new Sacramento Zoo in the sense of being the area zoo that focuses on smaller animals. Hopefully this zoo gets the support it needs from its community in the future, because I think smaller zoos for communities that aren't big cities also have the chance to contribute to conservation and educate the public if proper support is in place.
