Blackbuck, nilgai : Whipsnade : 17 May 2015

Five* female blackbuck (Antilope cervicapra) approach one of the female nilgai (Boselaphus tragocamelus).

Location: rear section of Dagnall Paddock.

* I saw only five female blackbuck in the paddock, although six were listed in the 2015 inventory.

Possibly they lost one when when moving them, or before that.

This new group is all-female; however there is already a single male at Whipsnade, currently mixed with assorted deer in the Passage Through Asia drive-through section.

He is possibly the last survivor of the old London Zoo stock which used to be held at Regents Park. Though Blackbuck from that herd were sent to other collections and may still have descendants in other zoos too.
