Interesting that I find just the opposite. Off the top of my head I count 7 different species in there, some multiple birds, and there are quite a few Nicobar Pigeons now. Outside of the walk-through there are several other free-flying species.
In the Malayan Woods walk-through there were only 5 birds until this pair came. Three species had only one bird.
Also, since there was only one Zebra Dove and one Magpie, it was pretty quiet compared to what it used to be. Yesterday the two Magpies were quite vocal and I hope this pair of doves get to calling back and forth when they are more comfortable.
I know that Indomalaya has more birds, but I almost never see them. The only species that I regularly see are the Nicobar pigeons, fireback pheasants and crested wood partridges, and two of those species can also be seen in the Malayan Woods. I can only think of five or six species in Indomalaya, so can you please post a list of the ones you know of?
Also, I find that since the Malayan Woods is smaller, it is easier for me to spot the birds, and when butterflies are in there it just feels more full to me than Indomalaya.
That's all I can think of and is only the free-flying birds inside the main aviary.
I haven't seen the black-breasted thrush for sure since last winter but a small bird, not the other thrush, flew by me yesterday and is presumably it.
Thanks Mr Wrinkly. I forgot about the tragopan and the black breasted thrush. Have you seen the tragopan(s) recently? I don't remember ever seeing it/them.
There is one female tragopan and one female monal and they are usually walking around in the shrubbery or standing in the food pans if they are active. They roost in the back and are hard to pick out. If I see the head I can tell the difference and I believe I saw both in the fall. I am seldom in that building except in winter, or if I go in the other side to watch the hornbills and the gibbons for a while.
