I've got some shots somewhere of Xylocopa bees in Italy that are glossy purple-black all over and abosolutely huge. There are some great bees out there.
my most-want-to-see bee is Wallace's giant bee Megachile pluto from Bacan and Halmahera in the Moluccas (also the home of Wallace's standard-wing [bird of paradise] of course!)
