Blue whale, back and dorsal fin

Monterey Bay, California, 26th August 2022.
The size of the whale only becomes apparent as it starts to dive, slowly rolling through the surface. The dorsal fin is just rudimentary.

I recall I once had a headthought of how a maximally 'preferable' picture of a blue whale would be taken.
The headthought involved the construction of a line of cameras going off at the same time so that the images could later me used to make a mosaic of the entire animal.
I'm not sure if it's ever been done, however.

@dillotest0 I have toyed wwith a similar idea. I have a matching image of this whale's flukes (as you will have seen), but my photos of its head (mostly blowholes) were taken at a diffent angle as our boat drifted past the resting whale and naturally I had zoomed in as well. I did not anticipate its dive, so I missed what could have been the first image of a triptych.
