Why does it say BLYDORP if the name is Blijdorp?

I'd like to know the same as Hix. But I guess Dutch changes as other languages (so does Icelandic) and words may not be spelled exactly the same today as a few decades ago. In my three visits (first one in 1992, last one in 2002) I have always been through this entrance.

OK, Thanks!

I think it's more likely that the "y" actually is a "ij." In dutch one can combine the "i" and "j" into one letter the "ij," in written language the "ij" becomes something like the "Y."
