I thought bobcats were very unpredictable and hard to see in the wild. What's the story behind this sighting - just lucky chance?

I used to do a lot of hiking in my home Province of British Columbia, and twice I've seen a bobcat in the wild. Both times it was from a car, but on each occasion the cat was not in a hurry to vacate the area. Here in Canada bobcats are fairly common and folks who have lived up north strive to find a lynx as those are apparently real treasures to come across.

Here in New England, Bobcats are becoming more common, so people always get excited when there's a sighting of a bobcat. I've yet to see a wild bobcat, but sightings are increasing. There is also the possibility of some wild cougars here in New England, so many people see a bobcat and automatically think it's a cougar.

This particular bobcat turns out to be fairly easy to spot. I've seen it over half a dozen times in broad daylight, sometimes only feet from me. Haven't seen it in months, but then again it's so hot that no animals are out.
