Bonobo Outdoor Exhibit

Is this a good exhibit? It's difficult to judge from this angle, but I like the photo as it gives an overall perspective of the enclosure.

It's not bad, it's a bit small though.

Its a really nice enclosure, its not the size as you know maybe from some zoos in the states or belgium, but the zoo has made the best possible for the group.

The other question is, is it really necessary to show all four species of apes in this zoo ?

If the zoo would keep only two of them, they could build really big and much bettere xhibits for them, indoors and outdoors. The Animalpark could keep the other two species, they could build huge outdoor and indoor exhibits for gorillas and chimps for example, and the park would get another attraction to the visitors.

Berlin's claim to fame has always been that it has the largest number of species of any zoo. I can't see that changing, especially under the current Director who in his previous role at the East Berlin Zoo did his best to compete wtih the older West Berlin facility, species for species.

I still feel as if both Berlin Zoos are postage-stamp collections, and slowly but surely they are building noteworthy exhibits. None of their habitats are truly world class and amongst the best on the planet, but at least some of the dreadful cages are being turned into spacious and naturalistic enclosures. The animal collection is clearly the best of any zoo, but I only wish that they would perhaps have lesser species and instead create better exhibits.

Zhey just staretd to do that. My opinion is, its not necessary to keep the same species at both parks, so indian rhinos, some deer and cattle, zebras(the animal park has all three zebra species, the zoo has two !) or elephants, the zoo has asian, the animalpark both species, so if would suggest, because the tourits want to see elephants in the famous Berlin zoo, to keep their a little bull group, and the zoo send his indian rhinos to the animal park. Just a few examples. Giraffes is okay, because the zoo has another subspecies than the animalpark.
