These are the only bonobos in any latin american zoo. They are a male and female. This exhibit is only adequate for the pair of apes, but could be improved.
The male bonobo is seen covering his face as he does in the photograph posted by anhinga above. Though this is one of the better primate exhibits at morelia zoo more climbing elements and shaded areas are needed here. A keeper told me the zoo was aware of this.
