@StoppableSan I know the Buffalo exhibit quite well, and I'd disagree with that assessment. The Buffalo Zoo's exhibit is at least twice the size of this orangutan exhibit, for starters, and provides a lot more visual barriers for individuals to escape from each other and/or from visitor viewing areas. This exhibit also has a complete lack of anything soft- while Buffalo's also lacks natural substrate, at least keepers always make an effort to include lots of hay and other soft objects that the gorillas can manipulate. Climbing opportunities are also an issue in this exhibit- those two hanging ropes are quite literally the only opportunity for these orangutans to brachiate in here, which certainly is inadequate for the more arboreal orangutans. Yeah, there are ledges and fake logs for the orangs to climb on, but that only goes so far. Buffalo Zoo's exhibit also always has plenty of enrichment, and I regularly see the gorillas interact with it, which was a stark comparison to this exhibit with very few enrichment opportunities. This is not me saying the Buffalo Zoo's exhibit is a great exhibit, don't get me wrong, but I would certainly take that exhibit over this one any day of the week.
