Native to the Malay Peninsula, Singapore, Natuna Islands, southern Sumatra, and the western and southern half of Borneo. This species of the genus rasbosa have a much more wider black stripe on each side that connect from the eyes to the caudal/tail fin.
This species apparently live alongside several R. baliensis, endemic to Bali
