Brown bear Varulven with a piece of meat at Kolmården

The large male brown bear Varulven (translated into "The Werewolf") at Kolmården. Varulven is an older castrated male that lives in the bear enclosure inside the zoo. The other bears including the breeding adults live in a large group in a really large enclosure in the safari park. Normally, when a female gets cubs, she and the cubs are moved from the safari park into Varulven's enclosure in the zoo. They then live there for one or two years and are then moved back to the safari park. The reason for this is that the safari enclosure is too large to be safe for the small cubs. Varulven normally adopts the cubs and acts as a good "father".

According to the park, Varulven is one of the largest bears in Sweden (including both wild and captive) and weighs between 300-350 kg
