Brown Hyena (Hyaena brunnea) at Port Lympne Wild Animal Park - 22 June 2013

This male is one of 2,1 Brown Hyena held offshow at Port Lympne - the only UK collection to hold the species. Fortunately, myself and my girlfriend were able to arrange access to see this individual thanks to the kindness of the head carnivore keeper at the collection, who was willing to meet with us to that end.

This photo makes me feel physically sick with envy! ;)

I notice you haven't posted a picture of the black-footed cat yet, saving the best for last I assume? :)

Unfortunately, the viewing windows for the black-footed cats were so dirty and scratched that my photographs - although good enough as a record I saw them - are not up to gallery standard. I'll attach one of them to this message as a point of interest, though :)

I think they may have actually cleaned the windows since i was there 2 months earlier, outside at least! I'm very envious, i will never forget the species that cost me the Zoochat challenge!

Stop complaining, you're still in joint lead ;)

The windows were actually dirtier than that photo makes them look, I only got that shot by using a flash on my camera. All shots without it are more or less images of a cat-shaped blur behind a load of dust :p

I know and i will see them before the year is out, even if its only for 2nd place! Then if the luck turns i'll visit Linton on 31st December & find one of their empty cat enclosures has suddenly been filled by Bobcat, Canadian Lynx or Jungle Cats!
