'Brown-striped'(?) squirrel

Apparently from the Malay peninsula - this specimen was confiscated by Dubai municipality. The sign shows a photo of a ground squirrel. Does anyone have an idea of what species this might be?

I think the most likely ID is a Caucasian squirrel, does anyone have any different opinions?

I've never seen a Caucasian Squirrel before, but from photos it looks good. It doesn't look like anything from southeast Asia.

It seems to look like images of Caucasian Squirrel but I don't think the Malay peninsula's in it's range.
