The enclosure of hispid cotton rats in the first cave of the Desert, when coming from the Bush. Merriam's kangaroo rat, milk snake and rock squirrel inhabit similar enclosures.

Burgers' Desert was opened in 1994. It resembles the deserts of Arizona and New Mexico. It is connected through an underground tunnel to Burgers' Bush. There are dayactive as well as nightactive animals. Species include collared peccary, Californian bighorn sheep, ring-tailed cat and turkey vulture.
