calamian deer

In the childrens zoo. This was a really nice surprise - I thought the only calamian deer were at San Diego.

Phoenix, LA, and San Diego are currently the only holders of Calamian deer.

Also highlights an important lesson. Never skip the Children's Zoo when you visit a zoo, you never know what might be hiding in there.

True. I had not been down there in years and would not have gone this time except that some of you told me they have a caracal there now. Didn't see it (except a leg inside the night house) but did see an ocelot and warty pigs, which were also nice surprises.

I'm learning that lesson about passing up the Children's Zoo, far too well. I did it at Phoenix, and two years ago at Saint Louis. I didn't know about the Calamian Deer there, and missed out. We've had Calamian Deer at Los Angeles for a couple of years now, received from San Diego. I'm sure that's where Phoenix received theirs from as well. San Diego was busting at the seams with them as I remember. My link to ISIS was down at my last check.
