The closest viewing opportunity I've ever experienced for this species; which includes Santa Barbara, San Diego Safari Park, and Los Angeles (back when Topa Topa was on display there in what is now the Cape Griffon Vulture Aviary, and at the time the only member of his species in captivity). As far as I've heard, Topa Topa is still very much alive and successfully breeding in the behind-the-scenes breeding colony. Although he first came as a wild caught youngster back in the late 1960s.
