Mr Wrinkly

Canada Lynx

With the bare eye first we thought a bird, then saw it had a tail, then decided it was a small mangled squirrel. Examining all our shots good and bad - it was a chipmunk.

The more interesting thing is that, although the zoo's earlier pictures show two ear tufts each, ours show that one tuft has disappeared. I presume it was just rubbed or bitten off and will grow back.

(best shot showing both kittens, the tufts, and the chipmunk was taken by my friend, posted with permission)

I wonder if the tuft is missing from the ear for another reason entirely. I would assume the zoo has probably got their hands on the kittens by now and had an exam. Perhaps the clipped the tuft off one ear for one kitten as a way to distinguish them from each other. It would be less scary for the kitten to have the tuft clipped then to have a keeper shave a patch off them with a noisy shaver. I could be wrong but it does make a lot of sense.
