Cape Barren Goose at Hamerton Zoo, 23/08/14

Cereopsis novaehollandiae
I'm glad I am not the only Zoochatter still using the old name.
what's the new name? They will always be Cape Barren geese to me. The only other name I've heard, I think, is Cereopsis geese which is a bit clumsy and pointless.

Cape Barren.....

If they're not geese, what are they then? Sheldgeese, but still geese.

I was just at Phillip Island for a couple of days and saw so many cape barren geese. It's strange to think that they were once considered a threatened species. They were breeding everywhere and we stopped a couple of times to take photos from the car. The photos aren't great but they do illustrate how comfortable they are with humans and, unfortunately, cars.
