caracal (oddly located in Polar Bear Plunge), San Diego

When was this photo taken? There have been quite the rotating door of animals in the wire cages near Polar Bear Plunge, and I thought that the last inhabitants were Arabian wild cats.

Arabian wild cat is in the smaller wire cage to the left of this one. This caracal is one of three (I presume a mother and two large kittens). They are in the larger cage with harp wire that previously housed pallas' cats. This was taken in summer 2008. Originally that cage had arctic foxes, which are the only animals that really fit the theme of the exhibit (but since I'm a cat fanatic, I won't complain too loudly).

Siberian lynx wouldn't be too much of a stretch geographically speaking. But perhaps the enclosure is too small for them
