it seems odd to have it under an upturned glass box. Is it new to the tank and they are trying to get the other sharks used to it before release, or is it just kept like that all the time? Or maybe it is pregnant and they want to be sure of getting the eggs out?

Yes, it is new here. I think it would be dangerous for it to be release from the box. It is too small, and you can see the sand tiger shark in the background.
