It's also interesting to note that they have moved the two northern whites to the geographically appropriate, "Central Africa" field exhibit.

So, so sad. If anyone had seen fit to get enough animals from Uganda or DRC 40 years ago and kept them on the same basis as their Southern cousins this animal would quite likely be on its way to safety.

The Northern bull "Ben" was a resident at London Zoo for thirty years from 1955, before belatedly and unsuccessfully being sent to Dvur Kralove. He was quite possibly the first rhinoceros I ever saw.

As the old maxim goes, for evil to triumph it is only necessary for good men to do nothing- or in this case too little, too late.

I'm so sad that I'll probably never get too see this species in the flesh unless they start breeding in africa :(. Unless I get too san diego in the next 30 years, or is it unlikely that they will still be around then?

These girls are quite old Cat-man. Unfortunately now would be a good time to start planning your family's San Diego trip if you want to see them.

^ah, thats pushed it right up on my priority list. maybe within the next 10 years maybe would be realistic (got too knock germany off 1st, amazon river dolphin;) ) i can hope that they will be there within that time. hopefully.

thanks david :)
