Another first for me at Copenhagen Zoo.

Old male Chieng Mai together with the young females, Kungaro and Surin - the duo that the zoo has been working on to re-unite with eleven year old male Tonsak.

Have the two young females become sexually mature and is the zoo trying to mate them with Chieng Mai?

And what is happening to Tonsak?

I must try to find a keeper to ask the next time I go to the zoo.

The cows get sexually mature much earlier. Siam at Paris sired a calf with a cow who was only seven years old, I think. Chieng Mai has mated with these cows in the old elephant house more than two years ago. I think they hoped to get a calf the first year in the new house.

I just read somewhere that the cows become sexually mature between the age of 8-14 years. So Chieng Mai has been with them before? I did not know that.
