This appears to be an extremely interesting chimpanzee exhibit, as there are few climbing structures, lots of rocky outcrops, and almost zero green grass. Do the apes have any kind of decent view from the top of their "trees"?
The zoo recently received two male chimpanzees, they haven't exhibited chimps since 2009. The indoor chimp area just underwent a renovation. The two male chimps are being introduced to each other and aren't expected to use the outdoor enclosure for about a month. I would hope that all the yellow grass is because the exhibit hasn't been used in a while, and they haven't been keeping up with the landscaping.
When they climb the "trees" they should have a view of the zebra, warthog, and african wild dog exhibits. It's a pretty decent sized exhibit, but it could use a lot more vertical opportunities.
The grass is much better now and they have added a female chimp to the group. The boys are doing well! They can see the whole zoo (and the passing trains) from their structure!
