Chimp family tree - 5 July 2009

This is an updated version including Talia.

It'd seem that all 8 are related ..... which I hadn't realised before, but as ever, it'd be nice to have a little more info, eg. the father(s) of Tekita and her 2 sisters ..... and the parents of Tombe (as Tekita's half brother, they must share the same father - whoever that is, otherwise he'd be shown as Billyjoe's son). Also, a bit of a mystery ....... there are notices up saying that Billyjoe spent 25 years at a reseach facility, which, if correct, would mean she came to Colchester in 2000. Yet she has 2 daughters born before that date - were they also born at the research facility ?

Well, it'd seem from this tree that Tekita, Tara and Kora are all daughters of Billyjoe .......

Yes, sorry, my mistake.

I've actually just googled and found this old announcement from the zoo when Tumba was born, which confirms Tara is Tekita's mum:

There was an exciting new arrival on Sunday December 5th when a baby Chimpanzee was born at Chimp World in Colchester Zoo.

The baby chimp was born to Tekita, who was herself born at the Zoo in 1996 and the baby’s father is believed to be Pippin, who arrived at the Zoo in 1992. The new baby is a boy and has been named Tumba by his keepers.

This is an exciting arrival for Chimp World as it means there are now four generations in the group. Tekita was born to Tara and she was born to Billy-Jo who heads up the family line.

Tumba is doing very well and can now be seen with his mother, grandmother and great grandmother in Chimp World at Colchester Zoo.

I'd still be interested to know where Tara and Kora were born, and also how Tekita and Tombe are half siblings.

Gillp you've made another mistake. Actually the sign says she'd been living at Colchester Zoo for more than 25 years.;)

Does it ??? ....... sorry if I've misread the sign and confused everyone (as well as myself obviously !) . I'm beginning to think I simply go a bit ga-ga at the sight of all the chimps and don't take things in properly. I bet the next time I go I'll look at the Billy-Joe notice and it will be embarrassingly clear.

That does make more sense of course, that if she's been at the zoo for 25 years plus, her offspring were born there too.
