This is the nicest chimp exhibit I have seen. I have never been to Detroit or KC. It is quite large with most of the exhibit shown in the picture. There is still at least a 1/5 of the exhibit to the left of the picture with a large climbing tree that is not shown. The rock wall in the back is also the back of the lion exhibit. About 20-30ft up the wall there is steel netting that separates the lion yard from the chimp yard and allows the lions to look down into the chimp yard. When I was at the zoo the lioness was watching a large male chimp forage in the grass.
I feel that as a person who loves spacious, naturalistic exhibits I am missing out by never having visited the North Carolina Zoo. So many of the enclosures are simply spectacular in comparison to many other zoos worldwide.
