Wellington Zoo’s chimpanzee night house (built during the mid 2000’s) isn’t as big at Hamilton Zoo’s, but still provides them with a decent sized space to play on rainy days - and gives the visitors a view of them from two levels. Especially when the troop had a large number of adult males, the troop used to split in two in the afternoon - the males would go outside; while the females relaxed inside.
The old chimpanzee night house was demolished in 2018, after housing birds for over a decade. The space was repurposed for a kid’s playground.
