The 95-acre African section of the zoo opened on June 17th, 1995, and the project doubled the size of the zoo and made it arguably the best zoo in North America for African animals. The 3-acre chimpanzee habitat might be the crowning achievement, and as long as the chimps emerge from their forest it is a truly awesome experience for all visitors to see them in such wonderful surroundings. There are even some photos on ZooChat of chimps high up in trees!
