Photographing chimps? You must have been bored.

I don't know what came over me Rob - think I dropped the camera and it landed on the button, which was pressed by the impact and this was the resulting image - I didn't delete the picture and I thought I'd post it here as it's an interesting tale involving lies - lots of them :p

Truth is I hadn't been around that area of the zoo for a long time so I spent a while around giraffes/okapi etc, as I usually do the paddocks, RoRA, Butterflies, Tropical Realm and Spirit of the Jaguar :)

I last photographed a chimp in 2003. I've done bonobos since but they don't count.

They certainly don't, I quite like bonobos but I think that's more owing to their scarcity in British collections and [not being well zoo-travelled] I deem them a rare species to see in a zoo.

I've nothing against chimps, they're just not a species I have any particular interest in. Nevertheless, I think they can be entertaining from time to time, they are after-all generally quite active :)

Oh dear me! A rhino and a bongo getting all artiodactylist (I'm half expecting zoogiraffe to get in on the act too).
I may be a mere lemur, but I want to speak up for us primates: Chester's chimp island must be the best place to take photos of chimps in the UK - nicely planted (apart from the brick wall shown here), a big group with a nice range of ages, a lot of activity at different times of the day and spectacularly close and uninterrupted views as Mr Mottershead planned. I don't always shoot photos there, but I always check for opportunities - I hate missing good shots ;)

Agree Alan, - if I'm going to spend time photographing chimps then this is the best group to photograph :p.

I give all animals a chance - I've photographed meerkats in the past :D

Rhinos cannot be artiodactylist, they are perissodactyls. So there! But I have to agree with the rhino, he is bigger than me.

Chester's chimp island is a great place to watch them.

Oops :o
Sorry JR!
I should have covered myself against silly errors like that by saying ungulatist.
