You managed to catch this guy in a good position. Every time I see him, he's in, or behind the rock. One time the lighting for the tank was off.

I was shocked that I actually got to see his face. At first he was kind of hiding behind the rock, but eventually he moved so I could see him.

I have no idea if he has a name. The only thing the volunteer told me about him is that he is 17 years old.

Wow. 17 years old. Didn't know that. I just heard that it's close to 4 feet long.

Wow I wonder how long they live? It would suck to have built that exhibit for an animal at the end of its life... although they only need him for 4 years at this point. I would assume the panda center will be renovated once the pandas leave. Considering how much everyone misses the money maker sting ray bay I wouldnt be surprised to see it return.

I remember hearing that they can live over 50 years, and of course grow up to 6 feet long.

Oh cool so I guess once the pandas go they will build him a new home over in Indo Malaya or transfer him.

I really hope the zoo decides to keep him after the pandas leave. Giant salamanders are such a cool species and I think they could easily find an exhibit for him in Indomalaya.
