The 2,000-square-metre Hornbills and Toucans exhibit opened in 1990 and featured 25 large aviaries that reached up to 10 metres in height. Jurong held the world's largest collection of Southeast Asian hornbills, and its successor the Bird Paradise will continue this legacy by housing the "world's largest living genetic reserve of hornbills under human care".
