Cloven-feathered Dove at Walsrode, 22/03/13

I'm guessing this was a first for you?

What is the deal with the strange colour of the bird? Every photo of it I've seen (do they just have the one?) is a weird sort of mossy green, whereas all the ones I've seen myself have been a rich bright green. Maybe it's due to being captive-bred in Europe?

It most certainly was.

Not sure - they do just have the one male bird currently; not sure if they've had more in the past.
